University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh is one of the oldest British universities and the largest university in Scotland. The College of Science and Engineering, which each year secures the university a top place in UK rankings in fields like Mathematics or Informatics, is an especially great place to study. Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. The University has around 29,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students forming a diverse community on our historic campus both in the west end of Glasgow and further afield. The School of Mathematics and Statistics, ranked 17^th in the UK, combines world-leading research expertise in pure and applied mathematics and statistics contributing to the university’s international profile and top 100 rating in the world.

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) exists to support the advancement of mathematical knowledge and its applications and to promote and enhance mathematical culture in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, for the public good. It is the professional and learned society for qualified and practising mathematicians, with a membership of around 5,000 comprising of mathematicians from all sectors, as well as those with an interest in mathematics. IMA provided us with a financial grant.
